Taylor Swift Will Open The 2019 VMAs

Taylor Swift has confirmed that she will open the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.

Swift spilled the beans during her Thursday (Aug. 22) appearance on Good Morning AmericaWhen GMA host Robin Roberts asked Swift what fans can expect, the star said, “Well, I’m opening the show, so that’s exciting. I don’t know if I was supposed to say that actually, but I’ve done it now, so…can’t take it back.”

In regards to her nominations, Swift went on to talk about the videos for “Me!” and “You Need To Calm Down,” “I wrote those treatments for those videos, so it’s really exciting to be nominated and the fans have been so wonderful.”

Of the “YNTCD” video specifically, she said, “Working with my friends, working with people that I love so much, seeing that get nominated was really proud moment for me.” 

The VMAs will be broadcast live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Monday (Aug. 26) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. It will mark her first live television performance since the release of her seventh album Lover, out tomorrow (Aug. 23), and it will also be the first time Swift has hit the VMAs stage since her performance of “Bad Blood” in 2015.

The “Me!” singer is tied for the most nominations, clocking in at 10, including video of the year and song of the year.
