PhluiDondatracc (P.O.T. for short) consists of Eddie “Mac Trae” Ellis III & A J “Azmatic” Dailey of Dallas Texas. The pair originally met their freshman year at the University of North Texas. Mac Trae, originally from the small Texas town of Marlin, (central Texas) and Azmatic from nearby Dallas, by way of Oak Cliff, hit it off during orientation. Over a decade later the duo have forged a brotherhood and are bringing to music the synchronicity of Pippen/Jordan in the 90s’!!
As artists, how do you complement each other so well? What are some of your individual strengths?
Azmatic– I believe it’s the tone of our voices and our delivery that complements each other the best. My individual strength would have to be the raspiness in my voice and my wordplay.
Mac Trae– it’s the reality of the brotherhood in our real life struggles that comes out, its two different real perspectives from two flys on the wall in the same shit. My strengths would be my country drawl and subject matter.
Congratulations on the upcoming release of your new album, “Out Da Blue”. From start to finish, how long did it take to complete?
Appreciate that. Collectively it took about a year to get it done.
What’s your process like for making music? Do you have a set routine or does it vary track by track?
It can vary. Sometimes we sit down and choose a beat and then collaborate on the hook. Other times we might write a hook solo and bring the idea to the other group member.
Was there anything in particular that you were trying to say with this project? Do you feel that you accomplished this?
That our flow is like liquid hence the name Phluidondatracc and that there are lyrical cats from Texas! The south has something to say in the words of Andre 3000. But YES. We absolutely feel like we accomplished our mission.
Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
It’s gotta be the flow. That was the whole concept purposely. The beats will catch your attention, as they should, and they fit so well with our style but the listeners always seem to gravitate to the bars.
If you could choose to work with some of today’s established artists or producers, to move your game to the top, with whom would you like to collaborate?
We gotta work with some of the great game givers of the culture off the bat I.e Jay Z, Diddy, Master P, Dame Dash, J. Prince 50 cent. As far as today’s artists and producers it would be Big Krit, 2 chainz, Lil Wayne, Chance the Rapper, Kanye, J Cole, Gucci Mane, Kevin Gates, Da Baby, Zro, zetoven, Mike Will, Timbaland, Neptune’s, Tay Kieth. Just to name a few.
What sort of branding and marketing are you doing to differentiate yourself from other artists?
Well we have our catch phrase which is ‘Phulladat’ that we want the whole world to grasp ahold of! So with that right now we have merchandise like t shirts and hats. But we also have things like bumper stickers and wristbands. Next we’re workin on headbands. Anything we can try to keep it in your face we will.
What is next for you? What do you want supporters to know about you, and where can they follow you?
Up next we have the release of the album as well as a mini tour set to take off Spring 2020. We want the public to know that we’re bringing our own unique sound to the game and we trying to create our own lane. We just wanna be your favorite rap group!!
