Starting off the proceedings, support act ALASKALASKA proved that their “time off from cafe work” was well worth it as they voted down “capitalism” and played songs from their debut album The Dots.
However, it was the psych-rock giants Tame Impala who put on a captivating and immense show. Opening with “Let It Happen”, Tame Impala played to a jam-packed O2 Arena. Having proved themselves an unbeatable live band, Kevin Parker reminded us of his capability as both a producer and performer.
Working their way through the classics, crowd favourite “Elephant” stood to be the best in show, with the catatonic vocals coming over as strong and dutiful while phones were raised for “The Less I Know The Better”. Last night proved to be a great send off for drummer Julien Barbagallo, who played his last set for a while as he’ll be off on paternity leave for the remainder of this tour.
Returning for a well deserved encore, Tame Impala finished with “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” and “New Person, Same Mistakes” leaving us to eagerly await their upcoming fourth album.
Catch Tame Impala play a string of dates around the UK including performances in Blackpool and Dublin as well as an exclusive festival performance at Glastonbury in June.
