Elvis Presley has now been dead for as many years as he was alive. The King of Rock and Roll died on August 16, 1977 at the age of just 42, after suffering a heart attack on the toilet at home at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. Just six weeks before his untimely death, the last recorded footage of Elvis was captured during a meeting with a fan. Todd Slaughter, the owner of The Official Elvis Presley fan club UK was that fan and last year described to Express.co.uk just how unwell Elvis looked and how a makeup artist predicted The King didn’t have long left to live.
Meeting Elvis at Indianapolis airport, Todd revealed: “He was laughing his tits off.
“But you try to remember what it was all about. He was saying something funny about Colonel Parker [Elvis’ manager], not offensive or anything like that.
“Of course I did say, ‘When are you going to come [to tour the UK]?’
“But of course by that time you could tell Elvis wasn’t a well guy to say the least.”
Todd added: “Of course he died. He certainly died. He wasn’t living in a Buddhist temple anywhere. He died.
“And I think that’s the reason they put his body on show almost.”
Slaughter was referencing Elvis’ open casket which thousands of people gathered to view at Graceland.
He added: “And then of course it turned out everybody said it was a waxwork, but you’re going to get this nonsense.”
